​The Henry Fears Quintet consists of Henry Fears on trombone, Trevor Phillipe on saxophone, Drew Madden on piano, Jaylen Ward on drums, and Jordan Faught on Bass. These musicians met at Kansas City Kansas Community College in 2021, where they all studied music and the rich culture of Kansas City Jazz. Since graduating, they often perform around Kansas City, aiming to be a breath of fresh air in the Jazz scene. The group admires the roots of the Kansas City sound but plays in a Modern jazz/jazz fusion style. The leader, Henry Fears, is an avid music writer and has won multiple DownBeat awards for composition and performance. Its other members have all been involved in DownBeat awards as well, helping Kansas City Kansas Community College become a front runner for DownBeat awards.
